New House, Old Problem

So maybe you have found your dream house. The layout is everything you want it to be, and you know your furniture will all fit in it the way you want. But just one thing is still just detracting from your experience of calling it "home." Many buyers look for that house that fits exactly what they want, and many buyers consider any home a work-in-progress. As life progresses both tastes and needs change, and some parts of a house may no longer serve their purpose. In short, remodeling is a reality both for the new homeowner and the seasoned veteran. Fortunately for both, resources abound throughout the internet to provide interesting ideas for even the most specific of needs. This blog will be highlighting some of those in the coming days, starting with the most obvious.

Find and curate a collection of exterior or interior design, decorative, and furniture ideas. As an added bonus, each image you pin is also linked back to its origin allowing quick access to any salable items.

If you are considering remodeling, or just looking to buy a new house, the following questions may be helpful to keep in mind as you mine for ideas.

1. What is the most important, or most used feature of my house for my family?

2. How is my house's current layout contributing to its use? What detracts from it?

3. Could other areas in the house be better utilized to help serve that purpose? Is there anything about them that, if changed, could help us to function a little better?

You are What You Eat! -- Staging the Kitchen Sink or Just your Refrigerator

I want to sell my house for 'x' number of dollars, or as a buyer, I want to know the house I am looking at is well taken care of. How can I guarantee when I am paying for a high ticket house that I am really getting what I am bargaining for? This article in the New York Times details one seller's concern over even his refrigerator when selling his apartment. The author's humorous anecdote talks about just that. Your refrigerator may not be the best indicator of how well your house cared for, but someone who is willing to go to the distance to stage theirs is probably taking into account many small details that may ensure how well your house is cared for.

#whereingreenville Legacy Park

Legacy Park Located in the Verdae community just outside of downtown Greenville was established in 2008 as a part of a larger development plan for the Verdae area in Greenville, SC. This 20 acre park is built on the former landholdings of John D. Hollingsworth, one of Greenville's former textile magnates. Legacy Park is the recreational centerpiece of the Verdae community, inspired by and modeled around the rolling hills of New York City's central Park. The Verdae community also contains Embassy Suites and Hollingworth Park, and is slated to become a thriving planned community over the next 15-20 years.

Spice Up That Back Yard for Greater Home Value

One great way to give your house some more curb appeal without adding more to your home's maintenance cost is to add some features to your back yard. You've already got a patio, but other than that, it seems like for the most part, your back yard is pretty bland. Dropping in a few great features here and there can not only make it seem more friendly, but can increase the value of the house in the buyer's eyes.

Need some ideas? Take a look at this nice article from HGTV:

"Where in Greenville?"

Greenville, South Carolina and the surrounding upstate area is growing rapidly thanks to the influx of small business and incentivized startups. Local movements such as a push for more organic and locally-grown and raised food sources have attracted the notice of many of the more health-conscious, and things like the Greenville Saturday Market have created opportunities for the local economy to thrive. Many exciting things are happening around the Upstate, and with all the hubbub it is easy to forget some of the the unique, beautiful, and historic sites in Greenville. It is not just all the excitement that draws everyone in, Greenville, SC is at its heart a great place to live.

Because I like to reflect on many local sights, to find things that are unique, and to foster interest in local happenings, I started offering incentives to observant individuals both to help me increase my knowledge about the Upstate, and to encourage others to be digging into its richness as well. Hence, my #whereingreenville campaign. Later on this week, I'll be posting photos to most of my social media sites offering a $30 gift card to Greenville's Olive Tree Restaurant to the first person to guess where they might be from. I've been doing so every two weeks for the past month. This helps me to keep my eyes peeled, and gives you a good reason to just take a walk or drive to see if you can find something a little different as well. So keep learning with me and check on the #whereingreenville hashtag on facebook, twitter and Google+.

If Greenville's exciting enough for you that you are thinking about moving into the Upstate, or you are just curious, take a gander at my website. http://yourhomesingreenvillesc.com
